The rainy season that just started last month is still allowing for beautiful walks. You’ll be surrounded by lush trees and plants in all shades of green. In January, beautiful flowers like orchids pop up everywhere. Also all kind of mushrooms can be found. One of our neighbours picks them almost on a daily basis in the ‘mushroom season’ and we happily buy it from them! It allows us to make beautiful fresh mushroom soup for our guests, or mushroom quiche. Irresistible.
The rainy season does not mean it rains every day… Often, heavy showers take place at night, leaving the day relatively dry. Since we are at 1400 metres altitude, days can start literally with your heads in the clouds. But gradually visibility can improve so much, that you can have the most stunning views over the lake, as far as the mountains of neighbouring Mozambique. And occasionally a rainbow!
We do recommend you to use a four-wheel drive, since the stretch of dirt road leading to the lodge can become very slippery and inaccessible for saloon cars. Even without a car, you can come up, while benefiting from our pick-ups and drop-offs. You could even drive your car up on the tarmac to Ntchisi and park your car at the police station where we will pick you up. Enquire for rates.
